FASHION RETAIL ENTERS A NEW DIMENSION – NUANCE TO OPEN ONE OF THE WORLD’S LARGEST FASHION & ACCESSORIES DEPARTMENT CONCEPT AT NEW MANCHESTER TERMINAL 1
Zurich, October 19, 2007 – One of the United Kingdom’s largest airside shopping facility is currently being built at Manchester Airport. The Nuance Group is pleased to announce that it will be present at the new Terminal 1 with 950 sqm of retail space entirely dedicated to fashion and accessories, featuring one of the largest fashion concept ever to have been operated at an airport.
Strategically located within the terminal’s shopping precinct, the new “Fashion Gallery” will cover 850 sqm and present high-end fashion and accessories in a breathtakingly designed departmental store environment. The line-up of brands is truly astounding and includes Armani Accessories, Bally, Burberry; Escada Sport; Guess, Manchester-based brand Henry Lloyd, Hugo Boss for men and women, Tommy Hilfiger for men and women, Montblanc Accessories, Porsche Design and Paris Hilton. All brands are presented in their own brand environment, in a shop-in-shop format, thus creating a true department store set-up for the store.

The philosophy behind the design concept was to create a combination of modern, contemporary and classic environment around the branded shop concepts. The result is an elegant, classic outlook incorporating modern fashion brands in their dedicated spaces. The six meter high shop front with large glass towers provide passengers with a spectacular view when approaching the shop.

To complement the overwhelming fashion offer, Nuance will furthermore introduce a spectacularly designed accessories area, arranged around an oval space which guarantees maximum visibility for those wandering through the shopping precinct. The Goldsmiths-branded “Jewellery and Watches” concept, on 59 sqm, features real jewellery and high-end watches, whereas “Sunglasses” (67 sqm) is designed to appeal to all fashion-conscious impulse shoppers confronted with a truly spectacular range of the latest designer eyewear.

The funky oval island in Manchester Airport is one of the outstanding concepts in the history of Nuance. With its organic shapes the store is different to whatever concepts have been developed in the past. The fresh and colourful appearance of the retail island provides the customers with a summer time feeling ready to take off towards their holiday destinations. Some exciting interactive and entertainment display features support the customers in making their choice.

Jean-Paul Bonnel, CEO, The Nuance Group Europe, commented: “We started discussing our ideas regarding the design of this spectacular retail development with Manchester airport well over a year ago. Manchester wanted a true department store at the center of their fashion offer. In the beginning there were doubts whether creating a fashion department store of these dimensions was feasible at an airport – it certainly had never been done before. We went out to benchmark this opportunity together and we worked very closely to define the positioning, ranging and, last but not least, how to deliver a breathtaking design concept.”

Andrew Harrison, Commercial Director, Manchester Airport Group, stated: "We have invested more than £35 million in the redevelopment of our most popular terminal and it was important that we anchored the retail scheme with an excellent department store. We're very pleased to welcome The Nuance Group to this new development and look forward to building on an already excellent relationship with the organisation."
