| MUSIC MEETS CIGARS: AVO UVEZIAN LIVE AT ZURICH AIRPORT |
|
| Zurich, June 7, 2007 – At the beginning of June, Zurich International Airport, The Nuance Group and Oettinger Davidoff Group teamed up to stage a special event, presenting octogenarian jazz musician and legendary cigar producer Avo Uvezian performing live at Zurich Airport. The performance called attention to the outstanding cigar offer at the airport, inviting travellers to indulge and stock up for their trip. |

Avo Uvezian is a cosmopolitan who began his career as a musician and went on to become a composer, cigar aficionado and creator of fine cigars. Following a career as a jazz pianist, he opened a restaurant and piano bar in Puerto Rico in the 1980s. There he discovered his love of cigars and very soon had his own AVO Cigars rolled. Today, as part of the Oettinger Davidoff Group, group, AVO Cigars are available across the world, and the AVO range includes humidors and smoker’s accessories.
Zurich International Airport has earned itself a solid reputation for creating events which will position the airport as attractive hub and shopping destination. The result of this pro-active attitude was a very special event, held at the beginning of June at Zurich Airport's Airside Center: Avo Uvezian, 81, played live at the Center Bar and – very much like he did in Puerto Rico, at the beginning of his manufacturing days - displayed his cigar range next to the piano for passengers to become aware of the offer.
Oettinger Davidoff Group and The Nuance Group, in their Davidoff Boutique adjacent to the main Tax + Duty Free Store for liquor and tobacco, presented the complete range of AVO Cigars as well as selected accessories. The promotion proofed extremely popular with travellers and showed how entertainment can be used to create awareness for an outstanding shopping offer.
The partners comments:
Stephan Salvisberg, Managing Director Switzerland, The Nuance Group, commented: „This is another excellent example for an excellent cooperation with airport and supplier partners. Having Avo Uvezian play at the airport while we stage a special promotion for his products at our ‘Davidoff boutique’ certainly creates the sort of retailtainment that adds interest to airport shopping and positively influences customer perception. My special thanks go to Zurich Airport, the driving force behind this outstanding event.”
Patrick Graf, Head Marketing Retail, Unique (Zurich Airport Ltd.): "Hearing the famous tune of ‘Strangers in the night’ by its composer Avo Uvezian gave me goose bumps and I am sure many passengers shared this feeling. To see passengers enjoying themselves and being able to give them a lasting impression of our airport and its services is exactly why we are so keen on launching trinity promotions with our partners at Zurich Airport. Together we are creating this special atmosphere, proving that airports can be fun and entertaining without loosing commercial focus."
Christian Vonthron, Head of Travel Retail, Oettinger Davidoff Group, commented: „This great event with legendary Avo Uvezian premiered here at Zurich airport, where we run our only airside Flagship Store ‘Davidoff Boutique’ and shall underline our appreciation to travellers and cigar aficionados. I think we all did a great job here to offer them a unique farewell from Zurich airport, just according to Davidoff’s slogan: “The Good Life”.
